Frequently Asked Questions
What is permanent make-up?
It is a process by which we implant in the epidermis/dermis layer of the skin a small amount of pigment to create an illusion or enhancement where hair or color is missing (as in eyebrow, eyeliner, lip color).
What are the advantages of permanent make-up?
Permanent make-up is perfect for the busy person who has little time to apply make-up, it is especially beneficial for someone who wants natural-looking make-up that lasts and stays true in shape and color, for the athlete who wants to look attractive while working out, and those with oily skin whose make-up seems to disappear after a short time. Those who wear contact lenses or are allergic to conventional cosmetics may also benefit from the application of permanent make-up.
Is permanent make-up really permanent?
Some fading may occur, and a "touch up" in the future may be necessary as the pigment is gradually broken down by the natural biological reactions of the skin.
To minimize fading:
It is essential that a sun block be applied over the permanent make-up area at any time you are exposed to the sun or a tanning bed.
Chlorine (which is found in some swimming pool water) is bleach, and continuous contact can "fade" pigment.
It is advisable not to use any products that contain alpha-hydroxy glycolic or retinol directly on the areas that have permanent make-up, as these products can cause premature fading.
What about sterilization, sanitation, and risk of infection?
Please be assured that your health and safety are of utmost importance. Sanitary surroundings, sterile equipment, disposable needles and quality products are guaranteed.
Is there discomfort involved?
In the most delicate areas, some discomfort may be experienced. The use of a topical anesthetic helps to lessen any discomfort. If you are apprehensive and would like a stronger anesthetic, this can be arranged through a physician prior to the procedure. Everyone has a different threshold of pain, but we find that overall, the discomfort is short lived in exchange for the long-term rewards from the procedure.
Are there any precautions that should be taken before these procedures?
Only with the lips. If you have ever had fever blisters, we suggest that you obtain a prescription for zovirax or valtrex capsules from your physician and begin taking them two days prior to the procedure (five days total). Also, to lesson inflammation, benadryl is recommended the morning before and the evening following the procedure.
How long is the procedure and can it be completed in one visit?
Most procedures take two hours to complete and are followed by a "touch-up" application to perfect the lines and colors approximately two or three weeks later, at no additional charge.
What can I expect following a procedure?
With the Conture 2000 digital machine you will experience less swelling & redness compared to any other brand of machine available today. The color will look somewhat darker and more pronounced immediately after the procedure, and within the first week, the excess pigment is sloughed off, leaving a soft natural look.
Is it expensive?
Fees vary from $100.00 — $595.00 for a procedure, depending on the work involved. You have probably heard of services offered at a lower rate, but researching the equipment and pigments used, is a good indicator of why some charges appear so inexpensive as the quality of the equipment and pigments is relative to the price. The quality and accuracy of my work, combined with the cost of machine and pigments used, is well over five times the price of any other device and products available in the U.S. Anybody having a procedure on their face would be well advised to use the best equipment and the most qualified technician available.
